Initial Rapid Assessment for Emergency Programme to IDPs

The Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Shelters for Returnees project, implemented under Project Reference No. 01/KBL/011/KBL/G.03/ROA, was carried out in Shakardara District of Kabul Province with the support of UNHCR/WFP. The project focused on addressing the immediate shelter and housing needs of returnee families through the reconstruction and rehabilitation of residential shelters. Under the project, a total of 51 shelters were reconstructed or rehabilitated, directly benefiting 51 returnee households. The intervention aimed to provide returning families with safer and more adequate living conditions while supporting their resettlement, recovery, and reintegration into their communities. Project activities included coordination with targeted beneficiaries, organization and implementation of shelter reconstruction and rehabilitation works, management of the required assistance, and monitoring of project activities to support the satisfactory completion of the targeted shelters. The intervention emphasized practical shelter recovery and the restoration of suitable living spaces for returnee households. The project was implemented from 1 June 2001 to 30 August 2001, with a reported project value of 33,277. Through targeted shelter assistance, the intervention contributed to improving the safety, dignity, and living conditions of vulnerable returnee families in Shakardara District. Overall, the project represented an important shelter recovery and returnee reintegration initiative. Through the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 51 shelters for 51 households in Shakardara District, Kabul Province, the project contributed to the recovery and resettlement of returnee families under UNHCR/WFP Project Reference No. 01/KBL/011/KBL/G.03/ROA.
